Linda Salant on Testing a Unique Diet with a CGM

Linda Salant on Testing a Unique Diet with a CGM
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that what works for one person may not work for the next . . . We should always be evaluating and ready for change if what we’re consistently doing is not serving us.”
Linda Salant on Testing a Unique Diet with a CGM

Tell us who you are and what led you to our program!

I’m a technical writer, a competitive ballroom dancer, a seven-year veteran of the carnivore diet, a carnivore coach, and an advocate for healthy living through a meat-based diet. I’m also known as @thecarnitarian!

So you’re no stranger to focusing on your health. What made you want to try the Nutrisense CGM Program?

I thought it was fantastic that someone could see how certain foods affect their blood sugar in real-time. I wanted to know exactly how my carnivore diet affected me and if the myth of “high protein turns to a cupcake in your blood” was true.

So would you say that was one of your primary goals for your health journey with the CGM?

Yes! My goal was to get clarity on how my unique diet affects my blood sugar. And then use the data to reassure myself and others that it is, in fact, a very healthy way of eating.

I did the CGM program three times, for two weeks at a time. Each time I do the program, I learn something new and fascinating, but I always have new questions that make me want to do the program again.

I tested mainly meats and dairy foods. I also tested some drinks. I was surprised that some stevia-sweetened drinks didn’t affect my blood glucose. I had always thought they’d cause my glucose to drop.

What are some other things you learned while wearing the monitor?

It absolutely helps with accountability. Snacking became less of a thing because I knew I’d have to enter it into the app. That alone is extremely helpful and motivating.

It was fascinating to see the glucose spike high with intense exercise. Seeing gluconeogenesis work like that was very cool! I also learned that a bad night’s sleep affects my blood glucose for the entire next day!

That’s good to hear! What would you say the biggest takeaway from your health journey is?

It’s an excellent program with highly knowledgeable dietitians and nutritionists to help you analyze the data daily. I think everyone needs to spend some time on this program so they can help make better food and lifestyle choices.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that what works for one person may not work for the next. And what works for someone at one time may not continue to work always. We should always be evaluating and ready for change if what we’re consistently doing is not serving us.

I am such a huge fan. I am currently eating with a higher protein approach. I am looking forward to using the Nutrisense CGM Program again to see how my blood glucose readings and breath acetone readings correlate
