Hello everyone, and welcome back to Week 8 of my Nutrisense journey. This week is officially the 2/3 mark of the way through my recorded health journey. As you know, my name is Logan, and I’m the content manager at Nutrisense.The last two weeks have been rocky in terms of sticking to my regimen. This has been due to a dog park accident that ripped my CGM off, multiple celebrations, and a housing move. Due to the move, I haven’t had a kitchen set up in almost two weeks. As a result, we have been eating a lot of easy-to-make meals and a LOT of takeout. However, I have noticed that as these last couple of stress-filled weeks have passed, and I am more subconsciously aware of the dietary decisions I am making.
My parents visited to help my girlfriend and me move into our new apartment and get settled over the weekend. As I mentioned during my first blog and vlog, one of the reasons that I decided to undertake this journey is because my father is diabetic. Everything that I’ve learned while undertaking this program with Nutrisense enabled me to have conversations with my father and share information that I’ve never been able to before. It felt so good to share the knowledge I have gained to help him make his life easier and healthier.
Both of my parents couldn’t stop commenting on the way that my weight and skin looked. They also commented multiple times throughout their stay about my healthier eating choices and how I was going about choosing my food. It felt so good to have them make these comments as I don’t get to see them often, so they can see a more significant change than I monitor my weight and appearance today.To celebrate these changes and successes, I want to bring us back to basics with some tips, tricks, and information about blood glucose and the CGM that makes the foundation of the Nutrisense program successful.
Back to Basics:
As I’ve said before, your blood glucose is affected by every meal, beverage, and snack. This means that even the most minute decisions can affect your glucose levels every time you consume anything. Glucose is essentially the primary source of sugar found in your blood. It is produced by your body breaking down the foods you eat and provides energy to your cells. You can, however, have too much or too little glucose in your bloodstream, and that can seriously affect your health.
It’s hard to understand how your glucose levels are affected by your habits and dietary decisions without having a proper tool to measure them. Wearing the Continuous Glucose Monitor has given me data and understanding to make the changes that my body needs. No two of us are the same, and everyone needs to care for their bodies differently.
How the Nutrisense CGM Works:
The CGM measures interstitial fluid, not blood. Interstitial fluid is the fluid that surrounds the cells of your tissues right below your skin. Glucose is created and then moves from your blood vessels into your interstitial fluid. The CGM is then able to pull data from your interstitial fluid.
When Should I Check My Glucose Levels?
Begin your day by checking your levels as you wake up [before consuming anything besides water] and see what your levels were overnight. You should also check before and after eating and drinking anything throughout the day and before and after exercise.
What Does It Mean if I Have Low or High Blood Sugar?
Many things can cause low blood sugar. Glucose levels below 70 mg/dL are considered low. Symptoms caused by low blood sugar include anxiety, shaking, confusion, hunger, dizziness, sweating, and headaches. Low blood sugar can lead to severe symptoms that affect your daily life and should be treated as soon as possible.High blood sugar also has many different causes. Identifying symptoms include blurry vision, needing to urinate more, fatigue, and feeling dehydrated. Glucose levels over 140 mg/L are considered too high.Your ideal glucose levels will depend on your age and any existing health conditions you have. Be sure to consult with your doctor about what your target goal should be before any self-diagnosis.
What Can I Do on a Daily to Regulate My Levels?
Even without pulling constant data, there are many things that you can implement into your daily life and thought processes to care for your body. These are some of the things that I have implemented [even with all of the chaos that has happened in the last two weeks] that have changed the way I care for my body:
- Eat protein and vegetables before eating carbs
- Get in movement before and after meals [a short walk is all that’s needed]
- Regularly exercise
- Don’t eat right before bed
- Cut out excess sugars and processed foods
- Eat on a regular schedule

All of these things that I have learned have translated into me making healthier decisions in my daily life. Looking back at my data at the end of long days moving has made me feel very proud of myself and how much I have accomplished in just two months. Without beginning this program and seeing real-time data from my CGM, I might have never understood just how vital little decisions can be to your health. I’m starting to feel amazing every day when I wake up, and my change in appearance is making me more confident than ever.
